What are the guiding principles of Village Encinitas?

Village members and volunteers create a caring, trusted, cost-effective community of mutual support as together we navigate the transitions of aging. We redefine aging on our own terms as we continue to thrive in our own homes and the neighborhoods we love. We enjoy a better experience of aging because we grow with, laugh with, and rely on each other.  We harness the power of our collective wisdom and experience as we collaborate with each other and community organizations to help build a more age-friendly Encinitas.

What Kinds of Volunteer Opportunities are Available?

When you complete your Volunteer Application, you will choose those volunteer jobs that you feel comfortable doing. If someone requests one of your choices, you will receive an email letting you know that there is a service opportunity available. Here are some of the volunteer choices:

1. Drive: As a volunteer driver you will provide door to door transportation to such places as doctor's offices, supermarkets, hairdressers, vet appointments, and social events.
2. Friendly Visit: Friendly visitors pay a visit to a member who asks for some company. It is a great chance to get to know someone new and help relieve feelings of isolation.
3. Pet Care: If you sign up to help with pet care you will probably be asked to walk a dog, visit with a cat.
4. Technology: These volunteers  will give computer assistance, help order on-line, explain smart phone functions or email set-up or assist with filling out forms. 

If I am a member, am I also a volunteer?

Yes, all members will have the opportunity to volunteer in areas that interest them. You only need accept a volunteer opportunity if you are available. There is no volunteering time requirement. Volunteering is a great way to stay involved in our Village, but you do not have to be a volunteer if you are a member. 

Are there any annual dues and what do they cover?

Yes, our annual dues are $120. That money is used to cover operating expenses such as insurance, phone, PO Box, software platform, etc. All members are also required to have a background check. This is needed for the safety of our members as well as to meet the requirements of our liability insurance. The cost of the criminal check is $30. If you plan to volunteer as a driver, there is an added $10 charge for the motor vehicle report. 

Do you have to live in a specific area to be a member of Village Encinitas

Yes, Village Encinitas is currently open to residents of the City of Encinitas.
