What are the guiding principles of Village Encinitas?
Village members and volunteers create a caring, trusted, cost-effective community of mutual support as together we navigate the transitions of aging. We redefine aging on our own terms as we continue to thrive in our own homes and the neighborhoods we love. We enjoy a better experience of aging because we grow with, laugh with, and rely on each other. We harness the power of our collective wisdom and experience as we collaborate with each other and community organizations to help build a more age-friendly Encinitas.
What Teams are available for volunteers to join?
We have the following volunteer Teams available:
- Transportation: A volunteer driver will provide door to door transporation to such places as doctor's offices, supermarkets, hairdressers, vet appointments, religous services and social events.
- Personal Connections: These volunteers may provide grocery or pharmacy pick-ups and delivery, mail pick-up, helping with trash cans on pick-up day, companionship visits or respite for caregivers.
- In-Home Assistance: Volunteers on this Team may help with simple "handyman" chores such as replacing a hard to reach light bulb or smoke alarm, moving furniture or hanging pictures.
- Health: A volunteer may accompany a member into a doctor's appointment and help ask questions, and interpret explanations, organize medications or help get on a medical portal.
- Technology: Volunteers from this Team will give computer assistance, help order on-line, explain smart phone functions or email set-up or assist with filling out forms.
- Administrative Assistance: A volunteer on this Team will have the opportunity to answer the Village Encinitas phone number and provide callers with information. They may also help with mailing, collating and delivering flyers or newsletters.
If I am a member, am I also a volunteer?
Yes, all members will have the opportunity to volunteer on one or more of the Teams that interest them. Volunteering is a great way to stay involved in our Village, but you do not have to be a volunteer if you are a member.
